kids and the digital age

Want to start out this post by saying I'm fine. Completely and totally fine. Well, bruised and scraped up, but in the scheme of things, fine.

Yesterday, I fell partially through the attic floor. I was trying to get some holiday stuff and the load in my arms shifted. Trying to save the boxes, I misstepped onto a part of the attic with no flooring and partially fell through into the den.

One leg is scraped from calf to thigh, but that and some bruising are the extent of the injury. I am very lucky as I was home completely alone, with no phone on my person, and yet could extricate myself and get down to the couch without further injury. I was a little shocky after the adrenaline rush. But mainly, I felt foolish. After 20 years in this house, I know to be careful, but a moment's carelessness could have led to serious injury to me and a relatively big mess house-wise.

As it was, I rested and iced the rest of the day and then did my normal carpool run. It was only as we were turning onto our block that I told my kids what happened. The 8 year old reacted with sympathy. The 12 year old? Ran in, took photos of the gaping hole in the ceiling and emailed them to all his friends. There's no being quiet and dignified the way I would have preferred with a kid with a cell phone. Love ya too kid.

And I seriously love my husband, because he spent several hours last night patching the drywall so my den is no longer a giant conduit for all the heat in the house leaving and a giant entry for who-knows-what bugs and crawlie things.

Be careful with that decorating, my friend...it sounds dangerous! lol!

Yay DH - he's awesome! :-)

I'm glad that leg wasn't hanging through the hole when Mr. Photo-snapper decided to document the event for all to see.

I'm sincerely glad to hear that you are okay.

Oh, my gosh! How scary! I'm so glad you aren't more hurt. I think I'd be putting wall to wall flooring in my attic after that! Don't do that again! -- Vicki Bell Motel
