As happened with the Chinese melamine scandal, the US FDA is being incredibly, glacierly slow to remove dangerous products from US marketplaces.
Just so you know, Ireland has recalled all its pork products produced since September 1st because the entire food chain has been contaminated with dioxin, a known carcinogen (and something you really don't want to ingest). There has been no official recall (yet) of Irish beef, but there are some reports of contamination as well, as the culprit is thought to be oil-contaminated feed. Hog and beef producers are being isolated, and there will be a massive slaughter of affected animals. However, Irish product has already made its way into US stores.
If you are a fan of Irish pork sausage, ham or bacon, now would be the time to throw it out. The FDA will get around to banning it in four months or so, if we're lucky. You don't want to wait for the FDA and you really don't want to eat dioxin-laden pork.
